The Playoffs are over and we have some winners. This was by far the lowest scoring year we have ever had, and was certainly the most boring as well. Week 1 ended with Jim Pickering in 1st, Jay English in 2nd, Steve Pickering in 3rd and Greg Perkins in 4th. The only meaningful movement we had was Steve absolutely choking and Greg sliding into 3rd to win some bucks. If there is anything certain in life, it’s that the lead singer from 3 Doors Down will never die, and that Steve Pic will find a way to lose.

This was quite the difference from years past. Even just last year, we had a garbage time Mahomes to Worthy touchdown completely change the results. So, Jim, Jay and Greg…..congrats on your wins, but much like the Super Bowl this year…..that shit was boring.

1st Place - Jim Pickering - $735
2nd Place - Jay English - $210
3rd Place - Greg Perkins - $105

As always, thanks for playing. I apologize for the lack of updates and my usual statistical deep dives and flair. Vacations, kids sickness, and being part of the towns snow removal team has really eaten into my time for the truly important things in life. I would love to tell you I will do better next year, but I don’t want to get caught in a possible lie. I will be doing my usual Marks Madness challenge starting in about a month, and I will also be bringing back my World Cup pools for the summer. Thanks again and I will reach out when those are setup.

Rules

  • You need to select 1 player from all 14 NFL playoff teams to complete your own roster. Upload your roster to the Google Sheet or send me your selected roster by 4:00 pm EST on Saturday January 10th.

  • All scoring and tracking will be done by me and can be viewed right here on this site. I will send out links after each week of the playoffs. It will have updated scoring and standings. You can also bookmark this page to view at any time.

  • Your roster must be constructed with the following positions filled by selecting 1 member from every playoff team:

    Quarterback - 2
    Running Back - 4
    Wide Receiver - 4
    Tight End - 2
    Kicker - 1
    Defense - 1

  • To add some nuance and strategy to the game, you can select a CAPTAIN and an ASSISTANT CAPTAIN each week of the playoffs. The player you have selected as captain will have their weeks score multiplied by 2. The player you have selected as assistant captain will have their weeks score multiplied by 1.5

You can only assign these captaincies to a player once for the whole playoffs. For example, if you name Josh Allen your week 1 captain, he cannot be named captain or assistant captain for the rest of the playoffs. There is a strong likelihood that you may not have any players left to be used as captains the further into the playoffs it gets. There is some strategy and balancing involved between getting the best matchups for your captains, and trying to ensure you will have people eligible to be a captain the further it gets into the playoffs.

You are not required to use your captains each week in order to keep more players eligible, but I would advise against that.

  • If a player is injured and is ruled out before the game begins, you can substitute that player for a teammate of his at the same position. For example, if you have AJ Brown on your team and he is ruled out, you can substitute him for Devonta Smith or another Eagles receiver. Just let me know before kickoff who you want to substitute for the injured player.

If the injured player is healthy and available to play in any of the following games, he will be inserted back into your lineup automatically. So, in the above example, If AJ Brown is ruled out for week 2 of the playoffs, you could substitute him for Devonta Smith. If Brown is active for the week 3 playoff matchup, he will automatically be placed back in your lineup.

You cannot alternate replacements from week to week. For example, If you have AJ Brown and he is injured in week 1 for the rest of the playoffs, you can select a new WR to replace him in the coming weeks. If you were to choose Devonta Smith for week 2, you could not switch and choose a different receiver for week 3. Devonta Smith is now on your roster unless he is ruled out prior to kickoff, then you could select another receiver from the Eagles.

  • $50 per team. Venmo me at Mark-Downing-1.

2nd Place receives 20% of the pot
3rd Place receives 10% of the pot

Scoring

  • I will be doing all scoring offline and posting the results here for everybody to view. It is a pretty standard scoring league with a full point per reception. Blocked punts and field goals will not be given any points unless they result in a fumble that is turned over to the other team or a defensive touchdown. It is difficult to accurately track these.

I will be keeping a spreadsheet with every teams individual scoring and each eligible players scoring so everybody can see how each players score was calculated. I will link this document and if you notice any errors, please let me know and I will look into it and adjust it accordingly.
