The 2nd installment of the Kobe Kontest is in the books, and it looks like Dan Bastable has a knack for this. Last year he had the best foursome and second best individual performance and took home 50% of the prize. Well, this year he won both the individual and team pools and is walking home with $488 which is 80% of the total pot. Keeping in line with the Dan domination, Dan Wall finished in second of both the individual and team pots. He wins $122, which is 20% of the total pot. Congrats to both of the Dans. This was a great season for the Kobe Kontest and we saw some truly legendary performances. Scroll down to see the final results and some more fun stats/commentary. See you all next fall!

Dan Bastable - Wins $244

Dame Dolla’s game had been tailing off a bit and because of that, he fell to the end of the second round in the draft. Well, all of us were dead wrong and Bastable scooped him up. The future hall of famer went off this year. His 3rd best game of 50 points would have landed tied for 13th place with the legend Steph Curry. His second best game of 60 points would have tied him for 3rd with the stud Luka Doncic. Hell, that game would have won last years Kobe Kontest. Dame wasn’t done though, and he threw down a 71 point performance for the ages. In NBA history, only 3 men have scored more than 71 points in a game. Wilt did it a bunch, Kobe threw down 81 and some dude named David Thompson dropped 73 in 1978. Congrats to Dan and Dame for balling out.

Damian Lillard beats Donovan Mitchell based on the tie-breaker. Lillard’s second best game was 60 points, while Mitchell’s was 46 points

Dan Wall - Wins $61

I think it’s safe to say that all of us would have liked Donovan Mitchell on our team this year. He has always been a good scorer and he was likely to be “the man” in Cleveland, but I also think most of us thought he was in the second tier of players for the Kobe Kontest. Well, Mitchell was having none of that bullshit. As I said above, his 71 points is a monumental score and digging a bit deeper into the stats, shows just how iconic this performance was. He ties Elgin Baylor, David Robinson and of course Damian Lillard with the 8th highest scoring game of all time. Wilt has 5 of the top 7 and Kobe and that random dude Thompson has the other one. I fully intend on keeping the Kobe Kontest alive, but we need to acknowledge that we are not guaranteed to see scores higher than what Dame and Mitchell did this year.

2022-2023 Highest Scoring Games

2022-2023 Highest Scoring Teams

  • The point of the Kobe Kontest is to select players that you think will go off for a ton of points in any single game. Each person will draft 4 unique players to their team and the player with the most points scored in a single game will be the champion. Also, the team that has the highest scoring total between all 4 of their players will also be crowned champion. A smaller portion of money will also be split between the second highest scoring individual player and team.

  • The draft will be different this year. I have created a google sheet that all participants will have access to. Once all participants are in, I will randomize the draft order and the draft will begin. When it is your turn in the draft, you copy the player you want from the Available Players tab and copy them under your team in the Live Draft Board tab. Once you have completed your pick, let me know and I will let the next team know they are on the clock. This is a snake draft and we will go until all teams have 4 players. If there is a player you want that is not in my doc, type his name in the field on the Live Draft Board under your team and I will create a player card for him.

  • Last year, you could only drop a player if there was a season ending injury early in the year. That is changing this year. You can drop and add players at any time, but there is now a $15 fee for any transactions. That money will go to the prize pool and will be split among the winners. If you do decide to drop a player, his high score is erased from your total and the new player you add is starting at 0. You will not get credit for the new players previous high score. It will start to count once he is on your team. Any dropped players can be picked up by another team for the same $15 fee.

  • If 2 individual players are tied for the most points scored in a game, the tie-breaker will be each players second highest scoring game of the season. If those are tied, it will continue to the 3rd highest scoring game and so on. The same rule applies to the team scoring. If 2 teams are tied with the same combined score, we will tally each players second highest scoring game and add those up for the new team score.
